mentorship, Students living in Freetown are faced with constraints on having mentorship programs that help them in choosing their career pathways, as it positively helps them to learn new skills and make rightdecisions. On this backdrop the FRANCIS KOROMA FOUNDATION visited the Annie Walsh Memorial Secondary School providing academic materials and mentorship services for its students. The first Beneficiary emphasized on the importance of mentorship through her studies,as she believes such an advantage will impact one’s decision making strategy and mental perception whilst studying for their dream career. The Second Beneficiary shared her views on mentorship addressing its importance to one’s personal development as key to providing a sense of optimism amidst the challenges in their daily lives. In conclusion,to the communication officer for the foundation stated the aim and objective of the foundation, while emphasizing the overall purpose of the project, which seeks to promote the growth of young people by providing scholarships and mentorship opportunities.
founder,Our founder Francis Koroma serves as a youth speaker at the high-level political forum 2023 as one of the panelists (Lead discussantlead) held in New York City under the auspices of ECOSOC, with a focus on the SDGs, specifically SDG6 and its connections to other SDGs cleanSDGs: water and sanitation. Francis Koroma discussed the issue of water scarcity and its impact on 40% of the world's population, as well as its anticipated rise. An astounding 2+ million people worldwide pass away from dehydration each year, according to a recent study. He discussed how his company, Frantech3D, has built over 10,000 liters of water utilizing cutting-edge technology in places where there is no access to clean drinking water, particularly in the global south. He underlined the need to close the gap between stakeholders and young people in various areas. He stressed that funding and attention should be given to young projects and ideas since they are innovative and have the potential to significantly contribute to the fulfillment of the SDGs by 2030. He emphasized the necessity for youngsters to lead in ideas and decision-making in their respective communities. He expressed his intention to assist and uplift young people in Africa and all throughout the world.
Kamuskay Kamara ’20 has dedicated himself to raising awareness about drug abuse in his native Sierra Leone, his native country, through the Young Active Movement, an initiative he founded. His commitment to successfully completing the ALA curriculum as well as networking with other young leaders from across Africa will allow him to explore how he can extend his advocacy against substance abuse to other communities. Kamuskay’s story is similar to those of many of our students who experienced a particularly challenging childhood environment, some from non-English-speaking countries. However, his determination to effect change saw him join our program which will equip him with the necessary knowledge and toolsprogram, to help him succeed.
