FKF awards scholarships to four outstanding pupils at Prince of Wales School
At the school's annual prize-giving ceremony in Freetown, two junior and two senior secondary pupils receive certificates, sashes and financial support.
Freetown, 26 March 2025 — The Francis Koroma Foundation has once again demonstrated its commitment to education by awarding scholarships to four outstanding pupils of the Prince of Wales School. The awards, presented during the school's Annual Prize Giving Ceremony, recognise academic excellence and financially support deserving students.
Since its formation in 2023, the Francis Koroma Foundation has been actively engaged in philanthropy, particularly in supporting education. Over the years, the foundation has donated school materials and provided financial assistance to students in need. This latest scholarship initiative is part of its continued effort to give back to society and encourage academic excellence among young learners.
The 2025 scholarship recipients include two pupils from the Junior Secondary School and two from the Senior Secondary School. The winners for the Junior Secondary School category are Idrissa Kabba and Sahr Moses Sandi, while Mohamed A. Jalloh and Ishmael Tarawallie emerged as the Senior Secondary School winners. Each awardee received a certificate of excellence, a sash, a polo shirt, and a financial reward to support their educational needs.
Speaking at the event, the foundation's representative, Usman Fambuleh, emphasised the importance of education in national development. “We believe that education is the key to unlocking opportunities for young people,” he said. “By providing financial and material support, we are investing in the future of Sierra Leone. These scholarships are meant to encourage students to continue striving for academic excellence.”
The Principal of Prince of Wales School expressed gratitude for the foundation's continued support. “This is not the first time the Francis Koroma Foundation has come to our aid. They have been actively supporting students through scholarships and school material donations. We sincerely appreciate their commitment to education, and we hope this partnership continues.”
The recipients were filled with joy. “I am so happy to be one of the winners of this scholarship. It will help me buy learning materials and reduce the burden on my parents,” said Mohamed A. Jalloh. Ishmael Tarawallie echoed the sentiment: “This award means a lot to me. It encourages me to stay focused on my studies and aim higher. I hope to make the foundation proud by continuing to perform well.”
Idrissa Kabba also expressed his gratitude. “I feel so blessed to receive this scholarship. It makes me believe that hard work pays off.” For Sahr Moses Sandi, the award is motivation for others: “This award shows that if we work hard, people will recognise our efforts. I hope my friends will be inspired to study hard and achieve their goals too.”
A parent attending the event called on other philanthropic groups to follow the foundation's example. “The Francis Koroma Foundation is doing an incredible job by supporting our children's education. If more organisations step in to help, many students will benefit, and our society will be better for it.”
The foundation has reiterated its commitment to sustaining its educational support initiatives and expanding its reach to benefit more students across the country. Through these scholarships, the foundation has not only eased the financial burden on students and their families but has also motivated young learners to strive for excellence.
