Community Service

Scholar- and volunteer-led projects that give back to the neighbourhoods that shaped them — from Harlem to Freetown.

About the programme

Scholar-led projects that give back to the communities we serve.

The foundation's programmes don't end at the classroom. Community service takes members, volunteers and scholars into their own neighbourhoods, with engagements organised across different parts of the world, built around the Sustainable Development Goals.

On International Youth Day 2023, FKF volunteers joined the Cedar et Gazelle Foundation for a donation drive in an underserved neighbourhood in Harlem, organised around alleviating poverty, ending hunger and reducing inequalities. To mark its first anniversary, the foundation took academic materials and mentorship to Annie Walsh Memorial Secondary School in Freetown — the pattern for the school visits and supply drives it has run since.

The work is also about showing up for others: standing with sister organisations like the I.B. Taylor-Kamara Foundation at the launch of Girls Ready to Lead, and recognising the volunteers who carry the mission, through the annual Volunteer of the Year award.
