The 98th Annual Speech Day: FKF's first scholarships at Prince of Wales School
On 30 March 2023, the foundation awarded top-performing pupils at the Prince of Wales Annual Speech Day and Prize-Giving Ceremony.
The Francis Koroma Foundation awarded top-performing pupils at the Prince of Wales Annual Speech Day and Prize-Giving Ceremony on Thursday, 30 March 2023. The sun was shining brightly over the auditorium where the 98th annual ceremony was taking place. Hundreds of pupils, parents, teachers, dignitaries and well-wishers had gathered to celebrate the achievements of the academic year, in a hall decorated with colourful balloons, ribbons and banners carrying the school logo.
The ceremony began with the school choir singing the national anthem and a rendition of the school anthem, giving the students the strength to pursue their aspirations through inspirational lyrics and melodic music.
The principals of the junior secondary school, Mrs Agatha Macfoy, and the senior secondary school, Mr George A. Lefevre, thanked everyone for attending and congratulated the pupils for their hard work and dedication, encouraging them to continue their efforts and never give up on their dreams.
The guest speaker, Dr Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, delivered an inspiring speech about the importance of education and the value of hard work.
This was the foundation's first Speech Day at Prince of Wales, and the start of a relationship that has continued every year since — through the 99th ceremony in 2024 and the prize-giving in 2025, where four more pupils were awarded scholarships.
